Bio Development Holding AG: Management changes

Resignation of Urs Mantel at the AGM in late May 2016

After many years of frontline development work, Urs Mantel, Chairman and CEO of Bio Development Holding AG (BDH) will be resigning his post at the Annual General Meeting in late May 2016. In the next chapter of his professional life he is looking to move away from operational activities.

Urs Mantel’s activities in the organic sector began with the bailout of the regional organic wholesaler Via Verde, where he exerted a strong influence in his role as Chairman of the Board. He later played a major part in the merger of Via Verde, Eichberg Bio and Vanadis, which became Bio Partner Schweiz AG, and helped guide the company’s development in his seven years as a board member. He was also a co-founder of Bio Development Holding AG, which in 2010 managed to secure a majority share in Bio Partner Schweiz AG. In 2013, Urs Mantel and the BDH board began accelerating the group’s internationalisation programme, with the 2014 takeover of Phönix GmbH in Rosbach, Germany. This was followed in March 2016 by the major step of a 39.9% investment in Berlin-based Bio Company GmbH (no. 3 in the German organic retail sector). During his tenure he also oversaw the investments in Biomilk and Bio Pulver GmbH.

The BDH shareholders and Board thank Urs Mantel for his many years of business expansion and wish him all the best for the future.

Urs Mantel’s successor as Chairman of the Board at Bio Development Holding AG will be the current Vice Chairman, Yves Enderli, who will also retain his long-standing position as Chairman of the Board at Bio Partner Schweiz AG.

‘Our strategy for the future is to introduce greater internationalisation all along the value creation chain,’ explains future Chairman Yves Enderli.

The BDH Group invests in organic food companies and is committed to strengthening and expanding the independent organic sector through investments. It currently holds a 74% stake in Switzerland’s largest organic wholesaler, Bio Partner Schweiz AG in Seon, and a 100% stake in Phönix GmbH, a German regional organic wholesaler based in Rosbach (Hesse). Since March 2016, BDH has also held a 39.9% stake in Berlin-based Bio Company GmbH, the no. 3 in German organic retailing.
